Gasparilla pirate fest is the biggest parade in Tampa. The tradition started in 1904 and is usually held on the last Saturday of January. The event commemorates the legendary pirate Jose Gaspar who is known as a "hearty old swashbuckler with courtly manners and possibly, just possibly, mischievous habits."

Spectators of the festival usually don pirate costumes for the day and collect beads and trinkets being thrown by the Ye Mystic Krewe of Gasparilla. Basically, Gasparilla is a Tampa holiday, boat show, festival, and pirate-themed costume party! The day will be filled with mimosa's, rum drinking, and probably pirate swearing.

BE THERE EARLY

Gasparilla attracts a lot of spectators from all over the country. There will be hundreds of thousands of people present especially for the Gasparilla Invasion and Parade of Pirates.

If you want to get the full Gasparilla experience, then you have to be there early.
